Sleep

If you want to lose weight you need to get enough sleep. I want you to shoot for 8 hours of sleep a night. Studies have shown that hours of sleep before midnight are when you get the best sleep with the most benefits. So the earlier you get to bed the better for your body and your weight loss. Studies also show that if you get enough sleep your body makes more of a hormone called leptin, which makes you feel satisfied after a meal. If you don't get enough sleep your body make less leptin and more of a hormone called ghrelin, which increases appetite and slows your metabolism. Your body also needs those precious hours of sleep to do maintenance and repairs on your body. You are working hard right now to lose weight your body needs time at rest to help it along. My goal is to head to bed by 9:30. This might be a challenge for some of us but if you get to bed earlier you can get up earlier and get just as much done in the day and maybe even more!

  1. LOL!!! I don't even remember the last time I got 8 hours of sleep. It's one of my fondest daydreams though.:) Last night my baby had a tummy ache and I got 3 hours, maybe. Definitely feeling some of that ghrelin today.

    Cabbage Dinner

    7 potatoes, cubed
    1/2 head green cabbage, chopped
    1 med. onion, chopped
    1 16oz. corn,drained
    1/2 pound lean ground beef
    Salt and pepper to taste

    Boil potatoes in small amount of water in skillet for 5 min. Add cabbage and onion, cooking until tender. Add rest of ingredients and simmer.
    Makes about 8servings,Serving size 1 cup, calories 310, fat 4.
    Make sure you add the salt and pepper, it doesn't taste like much without it. I was surprised that it had that many calories but I should have expected that with the potatoes.

    I also wanted to share some other food ideas and things I've found.
    Sandwiches have always been very popular at my house,but most breads are 140cals. for 2 slices and it just wasn't worth it. However, Nature's Own 9 grain bread is 80 cals. for two slices. If you like deli meats, Buddig Deli Cuts are 70 cals. for 6 slices. So now a sandwich with 2 slices of bread, 3 slices of meat(split the serving),with mustard, lettuce, tomato and onion is now about 125 cals.
    I'm not trying to advertise but it's definitely worth a look around and see what your store has.

    1. I hear ya on the sleep thing. Emri has been sick and not sleeping. After 4 days of little sleep I am not doing so well on my eating. BUT the key is to get back on track. I CAN DO IT!!!! And by the way Oscar Mayer has Deli meat that is 40 calories called Deli Fresh!
